Firstly, delete old
unused files from your mobile phone and memory card. The aim here is to free up
your mobile phone's memory space and allow for a better performance of your
mobile device. As much as you can, try to leave a sizable amount of your phones
inbuilt memory free. Some mobile phones have separate memory allocation, for
applications, music, pictures, and others. So check the partitioning of yours
and free it up.
Secondly, update your mobile phone's antivirus and use it in
scanning your mobile device. Use a good mobile phone antivirus program. There
are several of them available on the internet, for various mobile phone
operating systems like Android, Symbian, windows and iPhone, so get one for
your mobile device, install it, and scan your phone thoroughly. Also, remember
to update whichever good antivirus program you decide to use.
Thirdly, use a laptop, desktop, or any computer to scan your
mobile phone's memory card for virus. You need to use a P.C to do this because
the antivirus program of a P.C tends to have a larger virus database and so has
a better chance of detecting viruses that your mobile phone's antivirus may
have missed. Take caution, when scanning the mass storage memory of your phone
with a computer; ensure that the laptop or computer you intend to use to scan
is virus free. Using a virus infected P.C could lead to more infection of your
mobile phone.
Uninstall unnecessary
applications, especially heavy-duty apps. All unnecessary applications like
those that you have not used in a very long time should be uninstalled. Chances
are you may never miss them anyway. Apps that also cause your mobile device to
"hang,” "seize,” or "freeze" should be uninstalled and
avoided. All applications not in use should also be closed and you should limit
the number of apps that you run at a time.
Disable apps that you
do not use too often but do not want to uninstall, with your mobile phone's
antivirus. Some mobile phone antivirus programs like Netquin, allow users the
option of disabling apps of their choice. Therefore, if you have any app that
you use occasionally but starts up on its own, you could use this option. If
your antivirus program does not have this feature, then you can download an app
manager, install, and then use it in disabling any app.
Lastly, if you can, update your mobile phone's operating
system. Most mobile phone operating system developers release periodic updated
versions of their operating system. This updates, fixes bugs, and corrects problems
on their appropriate mobile phones.
