1.
Update your antivirus at least once every month. This way your antivirus can
spot new viruses. Updating your antivirus program is really important to having
a clean and healthy P.C. Sometimes you may be using the best antivirus program but
because you did not update it, it becomes porous and is unable to detect
certain virus. Another thing to note here is that everyday, more virus programs
like trojans and the rest are being developed, and if your antivirus database
is not equiped to detect them, no matter how powerful that antivirus program is
it won’t be capable of protecting your computer.
2.
Scan your computer regularly, especially critical areas like your windows
folder (assuming you use windows). Scanning your P.C regularly, keeps your P.C
in check. It enables your P.C to check ande detect virus programs that may have
been hiding or that may have masked themselves on your laptop or desktop.
3.
Avoid opening external drives that may be virus-infected. Use the "send
to" option to transfer files to external drives, rather than copy and
paste. But if you must open an external drive, be sure to scan it first. Use
good and updated antirus software programs to scan any usb device that you
connect to your P.C. If your antivirus program is outdated and you are not sure
if the usb device is safe, then do not open it. Also disable autoplay on your
computer.
4.
Install usb drive antivirus, along with your regular antivirus. Usb antivirus
is a special antivirus program that scans automatiacally scans usb devices that
you connect to your computer. Usb antivirus program also disable autoplay fot
you on your P.C.
5.
Disable the autorun feature for external drives, on your PC. Some virus
programs also use this feature to mask themselves and run on your P.C, causing
great havoc to your computer. The safest thing to do is to disable this feature
altogether.
6.
Lastly, mind the files you download and the sites you visit while browsing.
This is really important. Some sites like sharecash contain a lot of unsafe
files. So be sure to avoid downloading from those sites. They could compromise
the security of your P.C.
